On August 15th The New Performing Arts Centre celebrated two huge milestones: the announcement of the first corporate gift toward the fundraising campaign and a cornerstone ceremony where the facility’s cement foundation was poured.

Algoma Central Corporation graciously gifted $250,000 to the state-of-the-art academic and cultural complex. Their generosity is recognized with the naming of the community lobby, officially named Algoma Central Corporation Community Lobby. Algoma President and CEO Greg Wight presented the cheque to Fundraising Cabinet Chairman and event master of ceremonies Peter Partridge and St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan.

“It is very important other companies in the region follow suit,” said Wight. “This facility will make St. Catharines a better place to live and work for all of us.”

The announcement was made at the late morning cornerstone ceremony that took place across from the facility construction site. In addition to Peter Partridge serving as MC, the event included special guest speakers Mayor McMullan, St. Catharines MPP Jim Bradley and MP Rick Dykstra.

Dignitaries and members of the public were invited to place their handprints or initials in the freshly poured cement and forever leave their mark on the foundation of this transformational project.
